King Aussie making progress

Woodville correspondent King Aussie, a candidate for the Avondale meeting on Saturday looked to be making good progress when he galloped at Woodville yesterday morning. His three-quarter brother, Lunar Trail, just failed at Avondale last Friday, and King Aussie will be attempting to go one better in the John Brandon Trophy on Saturday.

He has finished second to Grey Bo at Rotorua and in the Cornwall in his last two races. Yesterday fast work took place on the course proper, which was heavy, most horses struggling in the worst ground in the home straight. King Aussie worked over a round, picking up Mill Stream approaching the 1200 metres, which they ran in 1:24.9, the final 600 m in 44.4 seconds.

Mill Stream’s next race will be at Timaru on Friday week. Scott Hammersley campaigned her in the south last winter, and she won her maiden race at this meeting. Suzy Harbour and Amarnath galloped 1200 m in 1:25.9, the last 600 m in 45. Suzy Harbour was travelling well and the recent Awapuni » winner should show up again at Hastings on Saturday. So

should Open Wallet and Sir Iceberg, which worked well but could not be timed in the bad early light. Platinum Ring, balloted out on the first day at Hastings, and Mea Culpa took 1:30.5 for 1200 m, the final 600 m in 43.5. Pacific Dawn and Tui Fras clocked 1:28 for 1200 metres, » the last 600 m in 44.7. Bonnie Edition ran 1200 m in 1:31.4, the 600 m in 45.6.
