Pianist from Australia

An Australian-born pianist, David Lockett, will give a lunchtime concert at the Arts Centre’s Great Hall at 1.10 p.m. on Friday, June 30. As a teenager he played in concerts for the Australian Broadcasting Corporation under such conductors as Arthur Fiedler and Sir Bernard Heinze, graduating from the University of Adelaide with a first class honours degree in performance in 1972. He studied at the Royal College of Music in London, then returned to Australia to teach at the University of New England, New South Wales. Later he settled in Adelaide

where he lectures at the South Australian College of Advanced Education.

David Lockett is in demand locally and internationally as a soloist and accompanist, often working with the Australian cellist, Janis Laurs. He has performed in . the United States, the United Kingdom, South East Asia and Australasia.

His chief love is the music of Viennese classical composers though he includes in his programmes music from the eighteenth century to the present day, including works by leading Australian composers.
