New office to boost Pacific trade

PA Wellington South Pacific countries’ trade with New Zealand will be boosted with the establishment of a trade promotions office, opened recently by Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mr Marshall. Until now the Trade and Industry Department had helped island countries market their products but the South Pacific Trade Office’s sole job will be to promote Pacific

countries exports to New Zealand. Mr Marshall said the office would supply information on export opportunities, carry out research on behalf of Pacific island exporters and organise trade promotions. The office in Auckland was being funded out of the New Zealand aid programme and would cost about $1.3 million over four years.
