Queen will visit S.I.
PA Wellington The Queen and the Duke of Edinburgh will visit New Zealand early next year, the Prime Minister, Mr Lange, announced yesterday. They will stay in Auckland and Wellington between February 1 and February 16, and will also visit the South Island.
They will attend the closing ceremony for the Commonwealth Games in Auckland on February 3, and in Wellington the Queen
will open the Parliamentary session, beginning on February 14.
Final details of the visit are still being worked out. “As the great-great-grand-daughter of Queen Victoria, in whose name the Treaty of Waitangi was signed, the Queen will be in attendance at the 1990 commemorations at Waitangi on February 6,” Mr Lange said. It will be the Queen’s eighth visit to New Zealand and the Duke’s tenth. They last visited in late February, 1986.
