Looking forward to spring in Akaroa
One way of getting through the winter is to look ahead to spring — and the Akaroa Spring School could be just the happening to set your sights on.
The new venture offers a week of adult classes in calligraphy, dance, drama, creative fabric, painting, massage, tai chi, floral art and embroidery. This will be from August 28 to September 1. In all the courses apart from tai chi, five full days of tuition by experienced practitioners will be offered, with classes limited to 20. Tai chi
sessions will be held at the start of each day. There will also be entertainment and social gatherings, and childcare for children of all ages. The tai chi course will be $2O, and the other courses $lOO or $125. Lunch is included. Course members must find their own accommodation and their other meals. Accommodation is available from $lO per night. The spring school has been organised by the Akaroa Community Arts Council. For a programme and more details write to Steve Lowndes, Box 35, Akaroa, or phone him at 0514-7614. Enrolments close July 28 or when classes are full. Gestalt workshop A gestalt workshop for those wanting to further their personal growth in a supportive group will be held over the week-end of July 7 to 9.
This will be led by Rudolf Jarosevitsch, who believes in a gentle but dynamic approach to growth. The workshop will be from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. on the Friday and from 10 a.m. until 4 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday. It will be in the gestalt centre, room 828 of the old botany building in the ' Arte Centre. The fee is $l2O. Rudolf will also be starting a drop-in group for those who want ongoing support or who prefer their personal growth in short bursts. This will be at the gestalt centre on Mondays from 5.30 p.m. to 7 p.m., starting July 3. The fee is $l5 a night. Bookings for the workshop are essential, but not for the ongoing group. Phone Rudolf at 851-166. Assertiveness training Being assertive is not the same as being aggressive. Assertiveness means
knowing and communicating your rights and needs without trampling on others. A course for practising positive communication skills and assertive behaviour starts at The Campbell Centre on July 17. This will be on four Monday evenings, from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. Marie Mayer leads the group. The fee is $65. For more details or bookings contact The Campbell Centre at 245 Antigua Street, phone 667239.
