Man disrupts Mass A Mass in central Auckland was disrupted yesterday by a man who demanded money and yelled at the congregation. The police said the man, who entered St Patrick’s Cathedral at 12.20 p.m., began to shout at the priest. He demanded money and refused to leave when asked to do so by the priest and congregation members. The man continued to abuse congregation members and the police until his arrest. A Herne Bay man, aged 51, will appear in the District Court at Auckland today charged with disorderly behaviour and resisting arrest.—PA Dispute delays jets An industrial dispute among employees of a company involved in the finishing of British Aerospace’s BAel46s has delayed the delivery of the first of Ansett New Zealand’s new whisper jets. The airline, however, still hopes to introduce it to service on the Queenstown-Rotorua routes as scheduled by the end of next month. The aircraft was to have been handed over this week, but a work-to-rule by employees of the Marshall factory at Manchester has delayed the delivery to the middle of next month. Ansett’s chief executive, Mr John Buchanan, said yesterday that the whisper jet would arrive in Christchurch about July 17. 112 lose hospital jobs The closing of Silverstream Hospital in the Hutt Valley has left 112 people redundant from June 30. The redundancy payout so far totalled $300,000, the Wellington Area Health Board’s finance director, Mr Bill Hargreaves, told a resources committee meeting. A further 34 staff had applied for and been granted early redundancy or enhanced retirement, a report to the committee said.—PA. Car race on again The Lyttelton Waterfront Motoring Classic, which attracted big crowds last year, will be held again in November. Last year, 116 cars competed in the colourful event, attracting a crowd of 20,000. This year 150 entrants from throughout New Zealand were expected with 24 races planned, an organiser, Mr Brian Porteous, said. Permission had been secured from local authorities to stage the event on Sunday, November 12 (Show Week-end). Organisers are appealing to those who would like to help on the day, to get in touch with Lyttelton Main School. .
