The Pioneer and Shirley men’s volleyball: teams are finding it tough going at the Australian national club tournament being played in Sydney. Pioneer, the current New Zealand club champion, has three wins and two losses from its five games. It lost 3-0 to Sydney, and Western Australia and 3-1 to Melbourne. However, it beat Townsville, 3-0, and Shirley, 3-0
. (15-6, 15-1, 15-12). Shirley, which was second to Pioneer last year in the New Zealand , championships, has lost 30 to Sydney, Pioneer, Aus-: Territory, Western Australia and x Townsville. The only unbeaten team after five games is Melbourne. >' •• .. Pioneer has a remote chance of making the semifinals if it wins its
last three games but the coach, Tony Barnett, said that' was unlikely. “Some of the teams are playing at, a level that is too good for us at the moment.” Most of the Australian teams - competing are "shadow” state sides. The winner of the tournament is. likely to be invited to the prestigious Peace Cup tournament in Japan next year. <
