Wharenui swimmers impress again

Michaela Ross broke a New Zealand senior record, and Phillippa Langrell just missed one when Wharenui club swimmers took part in the Roskili winter carnival at the Cameron pool. Ross, aged 16, bettered her own national mark for the 200 m breaststroke with her winning effort of 2min 35.42 s — an improvement of 1.575. Langrell, who is also 16, won the 200 m senior freestyle in a time 0.39 s outside her own mark of 2min 16.455.

It was a strong showing by Wharenui against the might of Auckland clubs. Brent Foster, Sylvia Hume and Mon-

ique Rodahl, and John Munroe were among the successful northern swimmers. Piacings gained by Wharenui competitors were:Phillippa Langrell, first in 200 m freestyle, second in 200 m backstroke, third in 100 m freestyle, second in 100 m butterfly, first in 400 m freestyle.
