Canty soccer win
A Canterbury XI cruised to a comfortable 3-1 win in “The Press” youth soccer series at English Park recently in spite of appalling weather and heavy ground conditions. Both Burnside High School and the Canterbury XI played enterprising football. Danny McNichol scored after 12 minutes and Andrew Lepper added a second before the interval for the Canterbury XI. Seven minutes into the second-half Canterbury in-
creased its lead thanks to a well taken goal by Mike Jarvie. Soon after Richard Adams, the Burnside goalie, made an excellent save from a penalty, and Matthew ‘ Everest obtained some consolation for Burnside when he scored with a 20m shot 15 minutes from full-time. The Canterbury’ XI is playing a series of games against high schools and “The Press” Trophy will be awarded to the school with the widest winning margin against the Canterbury XI.
