Call for ‘clothing beaches optional’
PA Wellington The Nudist Federation is calling for official “clothing optional” beaches. Present legal structures were unworkable and local by-laws should be changed, the federation said. There were a number of beaches where nude bathing was common, but nudists were uncertain whether they could be prosecuted for using them. A copy of the federation’s policy on beach nudity was included in the latest Local Government Association’s newsletter. Court decisions showed that nudity was legal subject to time, place and
circumstances, the federation said. The probability of a successful prosecution for nudity, on a beach where it was common, was negligible.
