PA Invercargill The French rugby coach, Jacques Fouroux, yesterday named a strong line-up to meet Southland but continued with his experiment in the tourists’ last outing before Saturday’s first test. Franck Mesnel, the first choice first five-eighths for France since 1986, but who has also appeared in the centres, will start even further out tomorrow — on the
right wing. In the scrum, Dominique Erbani, who has played most of his matches for his country as a loose forward, returns to the side of the scrum, after having locked in the tour opener against Counties on Wednesday. A newcomer, Olivier Roumat, who at 2m is the tallest forward in the 30strong squad, gets his third outing in row and his second as lock.
The team is: Serge Blanco; Franck Mesnel, Dominique Sella, Marc Andrieu, Patrice Lagisquet; Philippe RouteThomas; Pierre Berbizier (captain); Thierry Devergie; Dominique Erbani, Jean Condom, Olivier Roumat, Philippe Benetton; Pascal Ondarts, Dominique Bouet, Marc Pujolle. Reserves — Henri Sanz, Denis Charvet, Philippe Berot; Marc Cecillon, Jean-Pierre Garuet, Jean-Francois Tordo.
