INDOOR BOWLS The South Island indoor bowls championships in Blenheim over Queen’s Birthday week-end had Southland’s Grant Fortune and Shirley Turner from the Ryal Bush club win the pairs title while Canterbury’s Doh Clark, Trevor Thompson, Sally Thompson and Jan Clark, Papanui Workingmen’s Club, won the fours title. Fortune defeated the Canterbury ' husband-and-wife combination of Trevor and Marie Austin, Garden City Club, 9-1, in the final. Canterbury also provided both losing semi-finalists who. were Maurice Berkeley and Pauline Hinman, Garden City Club, and Bev Tomlinson and Terry Chalmers, Northcote Club.
In the fours final Clark defeated Harry Hunt, Jim Stewart, Ngaire Hunt and Margaret Stewart, Rakaia club, Asburton, 13-6. Third equal teams were South Canterbury’s Brian. Henry, Gary Morgan, Ann Barwood, and Rebecca Divers, Kia Toa Club; and Canterbury’s Kevin Anngow, lan Kamo, Gary Watson, and Debbie Kamo, St Paul’s Club. Entries consisted of 155 fours and 305 pairs.
