Charge dismissed
A charge of stealing a bicycle laid against a carrier has been dismissed. In a reserved decision given in the District Court yesterday Judge Holderness said that at best the prosecution had established an intention on the part of Mott Carriers not to return the bicycle, and to see if the complainant company would notice.
While the defendant had not acted properly from a moral standpoint, the Judge said he was of the firm view that they did not commit theft. Mott Carriers, which had taken lawful delivery of the bicycle from a store for delivery to a purchaser, had denied the offence.
