NZPA-Reuter Mira, Italy Johan van der Velde, the Dutch rider who disappeared from the Giro d’ltalia cycle race, is suffering from nervous exhaustion and has flown home to the Netherlands, his team manager said. The manager, Cees Priem, told the newspaper "Gazzetta dello Sport,” which organises the race, that van der Velde was staying with a psychologist friend. atic resort of Riccione without leaving any messages after finishing last in Tuesday’s individuallytimed tenth stage. “Johan’s wife told me he has fled to the home of a friend of his who is a psychologist but doesn’t want to talk because he is suffering from nervous exhaustion and is not able to answer questions,” “Gazzetta” quoted Priem as saying yesterday.
