Size, location prompt closing
The Smiths City store in Cashel Street has been closed because of its unsuitable size and location.
The general manager of the Smiths City Group, Ltd, Mr Colin Smith, said the shop was too close to the group’s major Colombo Street store.
More people were also now buying goods in suburban shopping centres.
Between 12 and 15 people working at the store have been transferred to other Christchurch branches.
