N.Z. to play in India
NZPA-AFP New Delhi England, New Zealand and Pakistan have confirmed they will play in a six-nation cricket tournament in India from October 25 to November 12. The Australian Cricket Board is expected to give its nod when it meets on June 9, but West Indies participation is still doubtful, said Jagmohan Dalmiya, the convener of the tournament’s organising committee.
He said in Calcutta yesterday that the West Indies cricket board had already committed its team to playing an exhibition match in Toronto, Canada, on November 5, the Press Trust of India (P.T.1.) reported. Mr Dalmiya said he was in touch with cricket authorities in the Caribbean and Canada to delay the Toronto match so that the West Indies can play in the Indian tournament, dedicated to India’s late first premier, Mr Jawaharlal Nehru. He said venues and a sponsor would be named after Australia and the West Indies confirm participation. The organisers have, however, decided to stage the final in Calcutta,
