Musicians, world leaders in live broadcast
"Our Common Future,” an unprecedented global television broadcast featuring top stars in rock, pop and the classics, together with numerous world leaders who share a concern about the environment, will be broadcast live on Sunday at 6.55 a.m. on Two. This five-hour entertainment and awareness spectacular will originate from the Lincoln Centre in New York and be seen in more than 100 countries world-wide. “Our Common Future” is not a fund-raising event. It is a giant "wakeup call” for the planet, produced by Hal Uplinger and directed by Tony Verna of ‘Live Aid’ fame.
The star-studded line-up will include Elton John, Sting, Diana Ross, Midnight Oil, Herbie Hancock, John Denver, Bob Geldof, Christopher Reeve, Sigourney Weaver, Patrick Swayze, Stephanie Powers and Lisa Bonet. The American President, George Bush, and the British Prime Minister, Margaret Thatcher, are lending their support, along with the French Prime Minister, Michel Rocard, the Chinese Prime Minister, Li Peng, the Australian Prime Minister, Bob Hawke, the Indian Prime Minister, Rajiv Gandhi, the Canadian Prime Minister, Brian Mulroney, and one of the world’s leading environmental spokespeople, the Prime Minister of Norway, Gro Harlem Brundtland. The message of “Our Common Future” will be one of hope and optimism, illustrating how the individual can make a positive contribution to improving the environment.
