Banking industry leaders meet representatives of the industrial and consumer lobby group against high interest rates for the first time today. The meeting will be held at 3 p.m. at the Bankers’ Association headquarters in Wellington.
The spokesman for the coalition of farming, manufacturing, tourism, and consumer groups fighting high rates, Mr Brian Chamberlin, said he hoped for a constructive meeting.
The group had a variety of points to raise with the banking industry, but he declined to elaborate on exactly what the coalition’s plan of attack would be.
He was not sure whether further public statements would immediately follow today’s meeting.
