Meals vary each week
Meals at Mansfield Gardens are optional. They are moderately priced and the menu is changed every week. Breakfast costs $2.50, hot lunch $5.50 and tea $3.50.
The dinner menu includes an appetising selection of vegetables and fish or meat. From the sample menu for Monday, residents could dine on tuna and broccoli almondine, hasselback potatoes, honey-glazed carrots, blanched tomatoes and steamed and buttered silverbeet, followed by vanilla baked custard and fruit.
Tuesday’s menu offers tarragon breasts of chicken, pan potatoes, steamed broccoli with cheese sauce, matchstick carrots, buttered mushrooms and crunchy apple crumble. Fish fillets in mushroom and sherry sauce, Lyonnaise potatoes, walnut and cheese-topped courgettes, slivered pumpkin and buttered green peas feature on Wednesday’s menu. On Thursday, there is tangy lamb and mushroom casserole, savoury potatoes, cauliflower paprika, Brussels sprouts with almonds and diced carrots.
