Extremely rapid S.I. expansion
One key to the success of the Paper Plus chain lies with the quantity of product they can buy with the clout of an 84 store organisation. This enables Paper Plus to keep their profit margins low and pass on the savings to the consumer.
The Paper Plus stores have a firm finger on the pulse of the New Zealand consumer, and accordingly are stocked with a 50/50 mix of books and stationery. With the arrival of their first local Lotto outlet at the Bush Inn
Paper Plus, the company is providing a level of service that is a hallmark of their operations. Since opening in November 1988 the Bush Inn Paper Plus store has consistently operated, “above expectations,” according to group manager, Mr Eric Poissonnier. “In many ways the store is typical of our operation with •an emphasis, on excellent products and prices backed up with good staff,” he said.
Philip King’s Paper Plus has three Christ-
church stores, and a Dunedin outlet all of which are reportedly thriving. The Paper Plus stores are all individually operated and owned with one of the most “bullish” operations that of Philip King. His strategy is aimed at the South Island market, which Mr King regards as full of potential. “The Dunedin operation has proved extremely good, and the Christchurch stores will be joined by two more before this August,” Mr King said.
