Well-known Cashmere house on market

A Cashmere home designed by the architect, Hurst Seager, and built in 1911 is on the market. The four-bedroom house in Millwood Avenue has had a colourful history and contains a number of interesting features including some old gas lamps, original wood panelling and pew-like seats on either side of the fireplace. The house was originally part of a 25 acre section of land owned by the Canterbury pioneer, John Cracroft Wilson. Jonathan Hitch commissioned the building of the house which was then sold to the Anderson family in 1920 and whose family members occupied it until 1968. The property was subdivided into three sections and for about 12 months was used by local children who knew where a key was hidden. It sold to the Young family in 1969 and was bought by Richard Thomas in 1985. In 1987 Dr Nicholas Van der Walt and Mrs Cornelia Van der Walt bought it and have now placed it on the market. It is priced at $294,500 and this includes a subdivisable section.
