Museum grant
The 1990 Commission has granted $48,000 to the Canterbury Museum for a project next year. The grant was the first the commission had made to a metropolitan New Zealand museum, said the museum’s assistant director, Mr Anthony Savill. The money would be used for a exhibition in the Pacific Hall, he said. The exhibition would take the visitor on a walk through time, beginning with the first people to set foot on New Zealand, and their culture through to the colonisers and their
culture, including the animals and technology they had introduced. The Canterbury region would be the focus for the exhibition. The year 1990 was an exciting prospect for the museum, said Mr Savill. Many activities were planned for the year, including cultural weeks celebrating the various cultures of people living in Canterbury. The museum would also celebrate its 120th anniversary, and the opening of newly renovated galleries.
