Outback opera
“Opera in the Outback,” an account of Australia’s most unusual Bicentenary event, has been released on video by Kiwi Films. The 50-minute documentary tells how Beltana, population normally seven, brought Dame Kiri
Te Kanawa, John Hopkins, the Adelaide Symphony Orchestra and 10,000 visitors together for a concert and a country race meeting last year. Although only three of Dame Kiri’s solos are included in full, her voice is heard in other arias on
the soundtrack, and the grandeur of the outback has been atmospherically captured by cinematographers Warwick Attewell and Donald Duncan.
CEL are distributing the video through Farmers, D.I.C. and KMart stores.
