Fine weather provided ideal conditions for the second day of the South Island sheep dog trial championships at Lochiel Station near Hanmer Springs, North Canterbury, yesterday. The top seven competitors in each of the four events in running order after the second day are.— Class one, Long head (80 competitors): Angus Ferguson, Rene, Oamaru; Neville Hore, Pat, North Otago: Desmond Murphy, Rod, Pio Pio: Neville Hore, Jet, North Otago; Bernard Arends, Pat, Pahiatua; Jim Kingan, Jess, Oamaru; Ted Weir, Sue, Methven. Class two, Tux short head and yard (80 competitors): Norman Harper, Guy, Hastings; Eion Herbert, Tim, Wakefield; Colin Denton, Nell, Christchurch; William Scorgie, Boy, Outram; Michael Wedd, Dell, Napier; Murray Lott, Spy, Garston; Lott, Pauline, Garston. Class three. Rover zig-zag huntaway (90 competitors): Murray Dodds, Don, Waikaka; Robin Adair, Wag, Blenheim; Lex Couper, Toss, Amberley; Mervyn Williams, Dip, Raetihi; Russell Black, Boy, Amberley; John Morris, Sid, Cheviot; Lloyd Smith, Birch, Roxburgh. Class four, straight huntaway (68 competitors): Don White, Sky, Taihape; Jim McCusker, Gyp, Blenheim, Russell Peak, Chap, Balclutha; John Popplewell, Gyp, Greta Valley; Peter Angland, Kay, Alexandra; Guy Thompson, Rock, Kaitaia; Dick Carmichael, Bob, Greta Valley.
