Need for quality emphasised
New Zealand manufacturers nave been warned they might be unable to compete on world markets bv the vear 2000 unless they ensure they are making quality products. This statement came from a manufacturer at the tenth New Zealand Organisation for • Quality Assurance conference in Christchurch. The chairman of the organising committee for the conference, Mr Bob Gilling said that this warning had been echoed by other speakers at the conference; About HO delegates have attended the three-day conference, which finishes at noon today. The theme of the confer,e.nce, ™’ as the challenge for the 1990 s in terms of quality assurance, Mr Gilling said. Dr Robin Mann, managing director of G. L. Bowron and Company, the Christchurch’based tanning group, spoke ab °ut requirements of quality for manufacturers This speech was followed by one from Mr Mike Freeman, of the Firestone N.Z. Rubber Workers’ Union, Firestone N.Z. was one of the first businesses in Christ-' church to use quality circles. •.
