Sheer Spite wins

PA Gisborne The Laxon stable continued its good run at Gisborne when Sheer Spite won the first leg of the T.A.B. double at the Poverty Bay Hunt Club’s meeting yesterday. After being last on the first day, different tactics were used with Sheer Spite yesterday. He came with a powerful run down the outside to beat Ebony Star which had taken the lead in the straight. El Kara, which had every chance, was third, and the hot favourite, Big Bread, a disappointing sixth. Lucatreze continued to show his liking for the Gisborne course by taking the second leg of the double. He has now won twice and been placed four times on the track. Lucatreze was untroubled by the heavy going and ran down Miss Japan to win by a long neck with Conrad two lengths back third.
