Move to strengthen drama
The producer of award-winning series such as “Boys from the Blackstuff,” “Edge of Darkness” and “Blind Justice,” Michael Wearing, is to join 8.8.C.2’s drama department. His appointment is part of a move to strengthen the department, said the channel’s controller, Alan Yentob. Wearing currently works as head of drama at 8.8. C. Pebble Mill, in Birmingham. In a move which will have a direct effect on British programmes seen on New Zealand television screens, Yentob is reportedly keen to see 8.8.C.2 drama shift away from “faction” programmes, to include more of the “fantastic,” according to the trade publication, “Television Week.” Series in production this year include Dennis Potter’s “Black Eyes,” and an adaptation of John Mortimer’s latest novel, “Summer Lcase» w —TONY VERDON.
