Objection to hiring of the Wizard
PA Invercargill The Christchurch Wizard has more than 400 Invercargill people far from spellbound. They have asked the City Council to distance itself in future from "occult practices" from the Wizard (also known as lan Brackenbury-Channell) or any other person. The 420 signatories to a petition tabled at the council meeting last evening said they did not ob- ■ ject to the Wizard's right to “choose whatever form of ministry." But they strongly objected to the city, as represented by its Mayor and council, inviting, commending, sanctioning or hiring him in his capacity as Wizard. They asked that neither public money, commendation or approval be given to occult practices, as these did not contribute to the welfare of the city or its people.
