Grant towards arts worker
A one-off grant towards the position of a community arts worker for Christchurch won Christchurch City councillors’ support yesterday. The cultural and community services committee recommended that $15,000 be given towards the position, which members believe will provide co-ordination and advocacy for the arts in the city. An arts worker has been employed since July, 1984, using funds from the Project Employment Programme, Volun-
tary Organisations Training Programme, the Internal Affairs Department, Southern Regional Arts Council and the City Council. The worker is responsible to the Christchurch Community Arts Council. The $15,000 recommended towards the position is half the worker’s salary. The committee referred the question of permanent funding to the new Christchurch City Council or its transitional committee.
