PA Wellington The police are pleased with the public response to Tuesday evening's "Crimewatch" programme, the first in a new series after a four-month break. The "Crimewatch” coordinator, Senior-Sergeant Phil Gubb, said 156 people rang the police hotline at the Avalon television studios. Most of the calls were about a group of three people using a stolen chequebook to buy thousands of dollars of goods. The key to the inquiry is a rare imported car. a Nissan Cedric, which the three have been using. Mr Gubb said dozens of viewers reported possible sightings of the vehicle.
