Old Boys loses rugby match
University shrugged off the offense of its 50-point loss to Marist last Saturday to score an 18-10 win against Old Boys in a Trust Bank senior rugby match at Rugby Park last evening. It took the side 25 minutes of the match to warm up but once fired they recaptured some of the dash and style of old. Tavita Sio injected a good deal of power and purpose into the University forward effort while John McCaw was a strong supporting runner. Victor Simpson bristled with aggressive enthusiasm .in mid-field and Jordan Scott proved a powerful finisher on the left wing. University deserved to win by more but it was plagued by a rash of handling errors and Paul Treeves was well below par with his goal kicking. Old Boys welcomed the return of Simon Brown to first five-eighths and the side mounted some stirring movements. ' But it could not quite match the vigour of University until the last 10 minutes when it made a bold bid to snatch victory before University rallied and Treeves clinched the match with his second penalty goal.
