Gondola decision delayed
The developer of the controversial Port Hills gondola is not upset that a final decision on the project has been delayed another month. Mr Peter Yeoman, of Payeo Developments, Ltd, said there was nothing that could have been done to avoid the latest delay. The Conservation Department had said when it embarked on the
report on the gondola that it would be finished by the end of April. But the Minister of Conservation, Mr Wooliaston, will leave for Africa on Sunday and will not be able to consider the report and make his decision until later in May. “The decision has slipped back a
few weeks, Mr Yeoman said, “but at least we have a firm date now about a resolution.” Since its inception four years ago the gondola has been through a town planning commissioner’s investigation, a Planning Tribunal hearing and a Crown Law Office review.
