Soccer postponed
NZPA-Reuter London Sheffield Wednesday's English first division home match on Saturday has been postponed after police ruled there could be no access to the Hillsborough ground from the end where 95 fans were crushed to death 10 days ago. The match against West Ham was to have been the first played at Hillsborough since the tragedy at the Liverpool-Nottingham Forest F.A. Cup semi-final. The West Midlands police, who are conducting an inquiry into the disaster, said their ruling on keeping the Leppings Lane End closed was taken on safety grounds. All fans would have had to enter from the opposite end. The ground access problem has also resulted in a fund-raising match between Sheffield Wednesday and the French club. Bordeaux, on May 2, being called off.
