Monte Carlo Open Jakob Hlasek, of Switzerland, headed a parade of seeds sliding out of the SUS6OO,OOO ($NZ983,000) Monte Carlo Open men’s tennis grand prix in the wind and rain yesterday. With a blustery wind blowing in from the Mediterranean and continual light rain falling, the fourth seed, Hlasek, was trounced 6-4, 6-1 by Martin Jaite, of Argentina, the losing finalist last year but unseeded this time round. But the tournament’s top seed, Mats Wilander, of Sweden, the world No. 2, refused to slither out even though he experienced some disturbing moments near the end of his first set against Italian teenager Diego Nargiso. Wilander won 7-4, 6-1.
