Local members of Parliament will be asked to support a better deal for the Canterbury Hospital Board under the Government’s proposed change to capital funding. From July 1, the Government will no longer pay for big items of equipment and building costs. Boards will have to borrow money and make repayments themselves. The Canterbury Hospital Board agreed yesterday to ask local members of Parliament to a meeting to explain how Canterbury would be disadvantaged unless special concessions were made. As the board is in the middle of rebuilding Christchurch Hospital at a cost of about $l3O million, it would not be able to afford any equipment or to replace any other buildings if the scheme goes ahead in its proposed form.
