Alcan profit leap
NZPA-AFP Montreal The Canadian aluminium giant, Alcan, yesterday reported first-quarter net profits of SUS 269 million (SNZ43B.SM), up a whopping 54 per cent from the same period last year. Quarterly turnover was up to SUS2.2B
from SUSI.9B in the first three months of 1988, Alcan said. Earnings per share of common stock jumped to SUSI. 74 from SUS 1.05. Alcan attributed the healthy first-quarter performance to strong demand for aluminium and firm prices on world markets.
