A ‘tribute’
The commitment and enthusiasm shown by both the Nelson business community of engineering and tradespeople and the staff of the PRINTPAC-UEB Case Group’s Moulded Pulp Plant, from building construction, throughout plant installation and trialling to full production, has been incredible, and indeed a most admirable exhibition of teamwork, comments the group’s General Manager, himself a South Islander, Mr Bill Berry.
“Under the superb direction of Ross Nankivell, Group Engineering Manager for PrintpacUEB Case, the machine was up and running within seven months.
“A magnificent achievement,” says Mr Berry. “In the first instance, the machine was landed from, Europe in pieces con-' tained in 19 40ft containers.
“Inevitably there were hold-ups and delays, but the Nelson people and our staff totally supported our
commitment to be up and running to meet the apple packing season. “The fact that everything is now working so efficiently and effectively is a testimony to the skill and expertise of the people involved in the project,” says Bill Berry. The Nelson plant is presently working to maximum capacity of 24 hours a day, seven days a week and employs 47 staff, who have all been local recruits and trained from scratch in the operation of the pulp machine. “We are most happy with our Nelson investment to date. It endorses our confidence in the South Island and we are proud to be part of the Nelson community,” said Mr Berry.
“Our total investment in the area, which includes two further plants employing a total of 84 people, •’ makes PRINTPAC-UEB the major packaging company in the province, with a real commitment to the area,” Mr Berry said.
