Plant meets South Island needs
The New Zealand Apple and Pear Marketing Board has had a long and successful association with Printpac-UEB. Both Printpac and UEB Packaging have beeen major suppliers of export cartons for many years. The merger between Printpac and UEB late last year strengthened the existing relationship.
It was this successful association which led to discussions between the two organisations on ways in which Printpac-UEB could further service New Zealand Apple and Pear Marketing Board requirements.
These discussions resulted in a contractual arrangement for the establishment of a plant in the South Island to manufacture moulded pulp fruit trays.
"The establishment of the Printpac-UEB facility in Nelson is a logical move in view of the fact that the South Island produces 40 per cent of New Zealand’s apple crop/’ said New Zealand Apple
and Pear Marketing Board Operations General Manager, Michael Gay.
“The new plant began production in time for the start of our harvesting season and the fruit trays are now being used widely throughout the South Island,” he continued.
“The production of the moulded trays in Nelson means that we are no longer reliant on one Auckland manufacturer and can eliminate the cost of freighting trays from the North to the South Island.”
The new Printpac-UEB moulded pulp plant will supply the New Zealand Apple and Pear Marketing Board with all the fruit trays needed to pack the South Island crop. The plant will be officially opened by John McCliskie, New Zealand Apple and Pear Marketing Board’s chairman.
“On behalf of the board I would like to congratulate Printpac-UEB on its new plant and its efficient manufacture of a high quality product.”
