PA ' Auckland Two men have admitted to beating and stabbing a puppy in Papakura last month. Robert William Marrett, aged 21, a machine operator, and Anthony Charlton, aged 18, unemployed, pleaded guilty yesterday in the District Court in Papakura, to a joint charge of cruelly ill-treat-ing an animal. The police prosecutor, Mr Barry Felton, told the Court the accused were discovered behind a Papakura factory by the police on March 25. Blood
was splattered around them over the asphalt and on a nearby container. Originally the pair told the police they had been trying to start a car, but later Marrett admitted stabbing a puppy and hitting it with a piece of wood and a wrench. A 27cm-blade knife was found at the scene by the police. The pair said they had been trying to kill a stray dog that had turned up at a friend’s house. Marrett and Charlton were remanded on bail to May 17 for a probation and pre-sentence report.
