Shop burgled A man and woman have been arrested after a smash and grab of a Kaikoura giftware shop early yesterday. Constable Gerry Hailes said Genevieve’s Gift : Shop, on Westend, had its front window smashed about ' 1.30 a.m. and jewellery was stolen. A man, aged 43, and a woman, aged 34, were later arrested. Tools taken Tools valued at more than $2OOO were stolen in a . burglary of a private garage in Ford Road, Opawa, on ■ Tuesday. The offenders made off with a chainsaw, drill press, angle grinder, spray gun, multi-meter, jigsaw, skil- saw, electric planer, a torch and toolbox. Pottery lamps stolen Pottery valued about $3500 was stolen in a ■ burglary of Pottery World, in Wairakei Road, on Monday night. Included among the items were 25 blue-and-white ceramic Chinese-style table lamps. Student assaulted A man wearing only a parka indecently assaulted a university student in Ilam on Tuesday evening. Detec- , tive Senior-Sergeant Colin Dalzell said the woman, aged 18, was walking with two companions along a walkway between the main university buildings and Bishop < Julius Hall when the attack occurred about 8.50 p.m. “A • male grabbed the woman from behind and put her into I a headlock. He told her he had a knife although this was not seen. He said ‘Hey, look at this,’ and exposed ' himself before running off.” The man was European, ’ a&ed about 20, of slight build. He was about 165 cm (sft sin) tall and wore only a parka.
