Sth Canterbury fights for P.O.
By
CHRIS MAHONEY
Opposition to the planned closing of post offices in Fairlie, Twizel and Pleasant Point is gathering momentum. A petition opposing the recently announced closings will be relaunched in Twizel today after the withdrawal of an earlier petition. The chairman of the town’s post office co-ordi-nating committee, Mr John Well,s said last even-
ing that the petition had been signed by a lot of people but organisers were told that it would be invalid unless it used the Government approved petition forms. The Twizel committee will meet tonight to discuss further protest action. Senior New Zealand Post Officers from Wellington will be invited to a public meeting in Pleasant Point next week.
