Oxford shocked, angered
The people of Oxford have reacted with shock and anger to the news their post office will close in June. The closing of the PostBank in the township will particularly hit elderly and business people. The Oxford pharmacist, Mr Chris Wallace, said if people had to travel to Rangiora or Christchurch to do their banking they would also tend to do their shopping in those places. “So that is money going out of the district,” he said. Business was not good in the town anyway, as a result of the drought and so the closing of the post office was a double blow. About 150 senior citizens attended a meeting in Oxford yesterday to discuss the closing of the post office and loss of banking services.
