Historic meeting for committees
Wellington reporter A joint meeting of Australia’s and New Zealand’s Parliamentary Select Committees on Foreign Affairs and Defence will be held in Wellington next week. It will be the first time two such select committees have had a joint formal meeting. . The meeting was described as “a historic occasion” by the Leader of the House, Mr Hunt, last evening when Parliament gave its permission for the meeting. “I hope similar occasions will arise in the
future and as C.E.R. develops that will be more likely,” he said. The Australian delegation will comprise Mr D. E. Charles (Labour) as leader, Senator C. Schaet (Labour), Mr P. Ruddock (Liberal), Mr G. B. Nehl (National), and Mr R. C. Katter (National). It represents the Pacific sub-committee of the Australian Federal Foreign Affairs, Defence and Trade Committee. The chairwoman of the New Zealand select committee is Mrs Sonja Davies (Lab., Pencarrow).
