Schneiders win at ten-pin
The Schneiders believe in keeping ten-pin bowling success in the family. When the Winfield Classic qualifying rounds were played at the Garden City Bowl recently. Sandor Schneider finished top among the men and his wife. Joyce, claimed first place among the women. Consequently, both earned trips to Auckland for the national finals on May 2021. Sandor Schneider was especially impressive, racking up an outstanding score of 1224, at an average of 207.4, from six games. This was one of the best totals achieved in New Zealand in the last 12 months,’ and placed Schneider well clear of his nearest rivals, Alister Scott (1193) and Noel Cook (1191). Joyce Schneider was highly consistent, bowling a sixgame total of 1089 at an average of 181.5. The fancied Glenys Cooper was secord with a score of 1057. Scott and Cooper did not miss out on an Auckland trip, however. The next day they participated in another qualifying round, this time at Bowlarama, and finished on top of their respective sections. Scott’s six-game total of 1194, at an average of 199, placed him clear of Darryl Murphy, on 1086. Cooper improved on her previous day’s effort to record 1086, average 181, to head Jackie van Pelt, 1023. The tournament was well supported, with more than 100 bowlers trying out for the finals.
