Teachers’ dispute
Sir, —I see (March 31) that Dr R. Ballard hopes that the P.P.T.A. will self-destruct. The P.P.T.A. has dared to oppose the changes that Mr Ballard is determined to introduce in education. It may be that Mr Ballard will self-destruct first. I have an idea that Mr Ballard is on a shortterm contract. If he is, then it is just possible that his contract will run out before his task is completed. We know that things are not going smoothly from the actions the P.P.T.A. is taking. Perhaps Mr Ballard’s timetable is under threat? Perhaps panic is setting in? I expect the P.P.T.A. to survive long after Mr Ballard becomes a name in a sad chapter of New Zealand history.— Yours, etc., F. V. McCLIMONT. March 31, 1989.
