Canty features in radio awards

- Canterbury is well represented among the list of finalists for the 1989 '■ Mobil Radio Awards, to be announced in Welling- • ton on April 21. Radio 3ZB is a finalist ; in the prestigious metropolitan station of the year award, and 3ZB’s Robin Harrison is a finalist for - the best talk host or inter- ~ viewer award. Two Christchurch entries have made the finals in the best music and ; entertainment host, metropolitan, category — 3ZB’s Barry Corbett, and
91 Stereo FM’s James Daniels and Ken Ellis.
In the hotly contested best new broadcaster category, Andrew Spargo, of C.93FM, is up against entrants from New Plymouth and Levin. C. 93 is further represented by Sharon Pratt, a finalist in the best newsreader or news personality category, while her on-air partner, Mike West, is a finalist in the best music and entertainment host, regional, category — for his work with a previous employer, KCC FM in Whangarei.
In the best technical production category, recorded commercial or trailer section, two of the three commercials in the finals were produced by C.93’s Steve Finnegan. Other local entries to make the finals include 91 Stereo FM’s John Tyler, in the best sports personality category, while 91 Stereo FM’s Erik Celmins and 3ZB’s Jimmy Stewart will compete with each other for the programme director of the year award. Radio Avon is also in the running for the best
station promotion, with its specially commissioned song, “Christchurch City You’re a Friend of Mine.” Even Christchurch Polytechnic features among the finalists, with an entry from Adrienne Knapp for a Banana FM commercial, broadcast on one of the short-term stations run last year by students in the Polytech’s broadcasting course. 3ZB is further represented in the outstanding community contributions category, for its fund raising efforts for the Child Cancer Foundation.
