Treasure Island

Mailbag

By GARETH RUSSELL aged 8, of Westport North School One day long, long ago Jim found a map. Jim opened it. He asked the skipper where it was from.

“This is a map of Rhinosaurus Island” said the skipper. "We will prepare to sail there.” “Can I be the cabin boy?” asked Jim. “Yes” said the Captain. The next day we picked the best crew and sailed 200,000 miles to Rhinosaurus Island. We walked eight kilometres to the first hut. We found another map and it showed where the treasure was buried. It was 200 kilometres away and had two monsters guarding it. There was even a greater treasure further away. The map sajd at the bottom “There will be another map at the next hut. But beware of the monster!”

Suddenly the ground started shaking violently.

There was an enormous roar and the roof started to cave in. We all ran out to find ourselves helplessly before a hideous monster with jagged wings who was landing on the ground. The tentacles underneath the massive beast grabbed up a helpless sailor. Princess Leia, who had been chosen as a crew member, aimed a pistol at the hideous monster and fired. The stunned monster dropped the sailor and flew back to the cave. The next day" they used their communicators and split up into two groups and agreed for one group to go and search for food, water, firewood, a camping spot and leaves for a roof. Group two was to stay at the site and listen for any noises. They heard a hideous noise so they turned on their communications and warned the other group. Then the line went dead. They went out

searching desperately for the others. Meanwhile the men from group One were making wooden spears to fight the beast. After a great tramp through the mist and darkness they found each other and to their surprise, almost got killed in the confusion. They said, “We heard a noise so we came looking for you.” Then the other group said, “We heard your look-out signal but then the line went dead.” “What do you mean? The line went dead on us too.” Over the next day they argued and argued so long that they didn’t notice the strong wind and how dark it had got during the hour they argued. If you want to know why it’s so dark so soon and so windy ... It’s because the Slitherlith is over the top of them.
