Hello again, How many of you have heard of the “Kiwi Conservation Club”? Are any of you members? Last year, Andrea Lomdahl, the club’s coordinator, visited us here at N.I.E. She asked if we could print some information about the club on one of our N.I.E. pages, so that people would know more about it. We did, and recently she has sent me some of the newsletters that club members receive regularly. I’ve really enjoyed reading them — they’re full of all sorts of conservation stories, activities, ideas for projects and things to do. Some of them are on this week’s page, just to give you an idea. If you’re a member of the Conservation Club, you can enter special conservation competitions, or try for a club award by having a go at a conservation project of your own. As well as these, you can also send away for various badges, posters, mobiles, etc. The club has lots of members among New Zealand school children already. If you’re at all concerned about our environment, and I know that lots of you are, the Kiwi Conservation Club seems to be a great way to actually DO something! If you’d like to join, you can fill in the membership form on this page. It does cost some money though, so check with a parent first. If you already belong, why not drop me a line telling me about some of the club activities, or what you think about some conservation issues? I’d love to hear from you, and will publish your letters on this page. Don’t forget, there’s also our own “sea” competition from last week, with book token prizes for the best original stories, poems, puzzles etc. See you next week. At!
