Pupils keen to be on boards
The number of pupil nominations for each Christchurch secondary school board of trustees ranges from one to about 30.
The closing date for pupil nominations was noon yesterday. The general manager of the Christchurch Secondary Schools’ Council, Mr Malcolm Richards, said he was unable to give the total number of Christchurch pupils standing as representatives for their school boards, because nominations were still being collected from schools.
It seemed likely there would be elections at most schools, at least two young people seeking to become representatives.
The boards are being set up under the Government’s “Tomorrow's Schools” education reforms. Each high school board will have five parents, the principal, a staff member and a pupil representative. 4.
