Wellington Airport on alert
PA Wellington Wellington Airport staff were placed on full alert yesterday after an engine panel came loose from an Air Nelson light plane, spraying oil over the aircraft, the police said. The Chieftan plane, with nine people on board, landed safely. Fire engines and ambulances were on stand-by at the airport for the landing. Inspector Brent Craig said the plane, on a scheduled flight from Nelson to Wellington, was carrying a pilot, a co-pilot and seven passengers. An Air Nelson spokesman said he believed an attachment had come loose during the flight. This was nothing serious, he said, but the pilot had played it safe by requesting emergency services for the landing.
